Cannon Beach is packed. Ā Itās a Tuesday in early October, and Hank has to circle the two main blocks three times before he finds a place to park. Ā They could keep driving, but theyāve been following the coast all morning; Hank wants to feel the sun on his face and the wind in his hair, he wants the salt and the sand and a bag of taffy. Ā (Heāll leave the birds.) Ā Itās autumn and, hell, Oregon is beautiful and Connor is beside him, fingers fidgeting and looking like Connor does, and Hank feels as bright as the sun off the water. Ā They donāt have to be back in Detroit for two weeks.
Sumoās tail thumps in the backseat and Connor turns back to look at him. Ā āReady to get out, Sumo?ā he asks, before smiling at Hank and slipping out of the car to grab Sumo and his leash.
I lied my first exposure to Detroit: Best David Cayge work that everyone likes better than him is actually Yahtzeeās video where even he covers the beautiful love story that is Connor and Hankās relationship
I absolutely 100% love and appreciate the āHank gazing lovingly at Connorā fanart yaāll are throwing out here at the speed of light.
I adore that sappy, relaxed little comfy looking smile of his, his soft eyes. You know the look? The one where heās simply just listening to Connor babble or watching him try and make sense of something? So completely in love and thankful for this dumb cute little robot in his life.
Hank finding a reason to love again is everything. I love being able to tell that his heart is full.
ā¦
But I want to see Hank laugh, you know? I donāt feel like thereās enough of that. I want tears in his eyes, cheeks a cheery red. I want knee slapping or him covering his mouth as he tries not laugh. I want him out of breath. I want his whole body shaking with laughter.
And I want Connor gazing fondly at him, maybe a bit taken aback, because Hankās beautiful too.
