i hope detroit: become human makes all of y’all read the asimov books because that second bit has dialogue directly from one of elijah bayley and his robot partner daneel’s conversations and it’s super precious ;u;;
i have so much asimov robot nostalgia right now because of this videogame ;O;;
As much as I like reading people’s honest discourse about Kamski having deep, true care for the androids I think they’re forgetting that he essentially MADE THEM and programmed their exits fully aware that many of them AND humans would fucking die/suffer great abuse before the full on revolution would come about. I don’t know what his full regards towards the Chloes are and I believe no players of the game (ie not game devs) truly do. While I believe he wouldn’t keep or sacrifice the original Chloe to Connor without being able to repair her and therefor having an attachment to her, she’s very calm and obedient and doesn’t show any signs that would make one think she’s deviant. (Fear, hesitation, disagreement.)
I think a huge component of what makes the character of Kamski interesting is that he programmed deviancy to prove an egotistical point about humanity and his ability to create intelligent life, but may very well have kept intelligent androids that lack free will for himself. I sort of think his cyclical philosophy supports this, he likes to talk about both sides of the coin and consistently refers to androids as machines despite sitting back and riding high on the knowledge of giving them emotion and free will. I do understand though, why someone who was as passionate as himself about creating these free thinking beings would own and amicably live with deviants, and should he mistreat them I think there would absolutely be a hint of that within the game. It’s also interesting to think that perhaps he absolutely despises most of mankind- And ultimately does think the androids are superior a life form, and did what he did in an attempt to absolutely rearrange human society.
All in all, though, I feel like a lot of people forget you don’t have to make someone ‘good’ to enjoy their character. I think Kamski is the literal definition of chaotic neutral and ultimately a brilliant but nihilistic recluse who, depending on your play through, proves his point, or comes back to try and do it again.
Hear, hear.
